Tenerife – A Winter Sun Holiday Paradise

Travel

Tenerife has become one of the most popular winter holiday destinations in the world for those who have to endure the long, dark and cold winters of Northern Europe. Tenerife offers a glimpse of paradise with temperatures comfortably in the 70′s and 6 hours of warm sunshine each day, and all for a fraction of the price of the Carribean.

It’s practically a sure thing that the weather will be warm and dry during your winter vacation in Tenerife, since there are usually 21 dry days during the winter months. If you aren’t a fan of hot weather, Tenerife is an excellent winter destination as the island, especially in the north, has weather that is temperate during the winter months.

Tenerife has quite a bit to offer tourists. The climate is temperate and gorgeous throughout the year and the diverse landscape fascinates everyone who sees it. In addition, there are many different seasonal activities available on Tenerife, so each time you visit, you can always try something new and different. It isn’t hard to understand why Tenerife is such a popular place for people to visit throughout the year.

The northern part of Tenerife is known for its rocky shoreline and the various vegetation that is found there; the southern portion is better known for its landscape that is reminiscent of the moon, and its unusual volcanic sand beaches that visitors enjoy so much.

The Island is known for four primary holiday resorts: the Puerto de Santiago, the Playa de las Americas, Puerto de la Cruz and Los Cristianos. Each has its own attractions and gorgeous sandy beaches are just outside your door at many of them. Some of the beaches are natural and some are man-made.

Wonderful opportunities for picture taking and touring are afforded by the presence of the Mount Teide towers, which are well known and viewable from many points on the island. One unusual way to explore Tenerife is to take an unforgettable tour, or travel on your own, up through the serene pine forests and mountain villages that dog the mountain. Sooner or later you will arrive at the volcanic National Park. You may even want to ride a cable car to the peaks above the clouds.

Local transportation in Tenerife is convenient and easy with regular bus routes between resorts and areas of interest to a tourist and most cities and villages throughout the island. If you prefer private transportation, taxis are available around the clock and private car hires are available which allow you to see more remote areas of the island, well off the beaten tourist path.

Tenerife is a great place for food lovers, with a wide variety of cuisines available to get your mouth watering. Some traditional Tenerife dishes include a thick vegetable called Potaje and Ropa Veja, which is a dish somewhat like bubble and squeak. Dried apricots, raisins, almonds and goat’s cheese are all grown and produced on the island, and you can try all of them while you are there.

You can enjoy a holiday treat of Ron Miel, if you enjoy drinking more than eating. Ron Miel is a tasty rum liqueur that contains honey, and for those who really love sweet things, banana liqueur is an island specialty, which you can savor by itself or with a creamy base.

Tenerife is the perfect winter destination because it’s warm, but not so hot that you want to stay in the resort. So many attractions and activities are available on this gorgeous island that everyone who visits can have a memorable holiday.
