In France you will find the city of Ajaccio. This city is located in the prefecture of the department of Corse-du-Sud in the Corsican region. The city is considered to be the capital of the region. The city can be found on the west coast of Corsica. It is 210 miles southeast of Marseille. The city lies in a sheltered area at the foot of some wooded hills that can be seen on the northern shore of the Gulf of Ajaccio. As you walk around this city you will find that it is a large city which can be seen extending for some miles in all directions.
The city’s harbor can be found to the east of the original citadel which was located on a hill which overlooked the harbor. The peninsula which protected the harbor is now home to the Jettee de la Citadelle and the Quai de la Citadelle. The modern city of Ajaccio extends to the entire harbor and the better part of the Gulf of Ajaccio. The suburbs of Ajaccio can be seen sprawling up the Gravona River Valley.
